Our power core aeration creates thousands of new growth zones throughout your lawn by removing 1" to 3" cores of soil. These cores eventually dissolve, helping to speed up the natural process of thatch breakdown. The holes left by aeration make more room for air, fertilizer and water to reach your lawn's roots. After aeration, your lawn will naturally expand toward the open pockets in the soil, resulting in healthier grass with thicker, deeper roots.
We are often asked about thatch - what it is and what causes it. Thatch is a tightly interwoven layer of living and dead tissue existing between the blades of grass and soil surface. It is composed primarily of products from stems, leaf sheaths, crowns, and roots that resist decay. Although a minor thatch layer improves the wear tolerance of a lawn, excessive thatch harbors disease organisms and insects making the lawn more susceptible to damage from disease and drought. As to how it develops, there are a few considerations: grass type and growth rate, too much nitrogen fertilizer in the Spring, compacted soils, acidic soils, overuse of pesticides, infrequent lawn mowing that results in clumps of dead grass.
